Today is World Suicide Prevention Day

Did you know that the World Health Organization (WHO) says that there are more than 800,000 deaths by suicide every year around the world? That equates to one person, somewhere, committing suicide every 40 seconds.

Today is World Suicide Prevention Day. Here are some ways you can help someone who’s feeling like they have no choice…

1) Don’t tell them how great life really is.
2) Don’t tell them to just be happy.
3) Don’t even think about telling them that what they’re feeling is selfish, or inconsiderate, or cowardly…just don’t.
4) Don’t assume you know what’s going on in their head, or their life, no matter how well you know them.

But more importantly…

Listen…
Pay attention to what they say and do…
Realize that it’s not about you, nor is it your responsibility to fix it or them…
And finally, just be there.
